Sleep through it. Wake up done.

IV sedation dentistry in Groton, CT. No awareness. No anxiety. No memory of the procedure. Just results.

What IV sedation actually means.

IV sedation is medication delivered through a small IV line in your arm. Within seconds, you drift into a deep twilight state. You’re still breathing on your own — your body stays relaxed and your reflexes keep working. But you won’t be aware of anything. You won’t feel anything. And when it’s over, you won’t remember anything.

This is not laughing gas. Laughing gas is a mild relaxant that takes the edge off. You’re still fully conscious, fully aware, and you remember everything. IV sedation is a completely different level. You’re out.

And it’s not general anesthesia either. General anesthesia shuts everything down — you need a breathing tube and an anesthesiologist. IV sedation is lighter and safer. You breathe on your own the entire time. But from your perspective, the result is the same: you drift off, and when you open your eyes, the work is done.

Who this is for.

You’ve avoided the dentist for years

Maybe it’s been 5 years. Maybe 15. Maybe you don’t want to think about how long. It doesn’t matter. We don’t count and we don’t ask why. You’re here now, and IV sedation means you can get everything handled without being aware of any of it.

You have a lot of work that needs to be done

Other offices would spread this across ten or fifteen appointments. We do it in one. IV sedation lets Dr. Rus work uninterrupted for hours while you sleep. You walk in with a mouth full of problems and walk out with everything handled.

You just don’t want to deal with it

Not everyone who chooses sedation is afraid. Some people just value their time and would rather sleep through it. If you’d rather close your eyes, skip the sounds and the waiting, and wake up done — that’s reason enough.

Here’s what happens.

01

Free consultation

We review your situation, discuss what needs to be done, and answer every question. No pressure, no judgment. If sedation is right for you, we plan your visit.

02

Day of your appointment

You arrive at our office in Groton. We place a small IV — one quick moment, and that’s the last thing you’ll be aware of. The medication takes effect immediately.

03

You sleep. We work.

Dr. Rus completes your entire treatment plan while you’re in a deep twilight state. We monitor your vitals continuously — oxygen, heart rate, blood pressure, everything.

04

You wake up done

When the work is complete, we gently bring you back. Most patients open their eyes and ask, “When are you going to start?” It’s already finished.

05

Recovery

Someone drives you home. You rest for a few hours. By the next morning, most patients feel completely normal — except that the dental problems they’d been carrying for years are gone.

Your safety is not negotiable.

Dr. Rus is IV sedation certified and monitors every patient with medical-grade equipment throughout the entire procedure. Oxygen levels, heart rate, blood pressure — everything is tracked continuously.

We carry full emergency equipment and reversal medications in the office. Dr. Rus is trained in advanced cardiac life support. Complications with IV sedation are extremely rare, but we prepare for everything.

IV sedation is actually safer than general anesthesia. You breathe on your own. Your reflexes stay intact. You’re in a controlled, monitored state the entire time. You’re safer here than you would be white-knuckling it in the chair with your blood pressure through the roof.

Common questions.

Will I be completely asleep?

You’ll be in a deep twilight state. You’re not under general anesthesia — you breathe on your own the entire time. But from your perspective, you won’t be aware of anything happening. Most patients say it feels like they blinked and it was over.

Will I feel any pain?

No. The sedation eliminates both awareness and pain. You won’t feel a thing — not the procedure, not the sounds, nothing at all.

Will I remember anything?

No. IV sedation produces amnesia. The time in the chair simply won’t exist in your memory. Most patients don’t remember anything from the moment the sedation takes effect until they’re gently woken up.

How is this different from laughing gas?

Laughing gas (nitrous oxide) is a mild relaxant — you’re still fully conscious and aware. IV sedation is a much deeper level. You won’t be aware of what’s happening, you won’t feel anything, and you won’t remember it. For patients with real dental anxiety, laughing gas often isn’t enough.

Is IV sedation safe?

Yes. IV sedation has been used in dentistry for decades. It’s actually safer than general anesthesia because you breathe on your own throughout. Dr. Rus is IV sedation certified, monitors your vitals with medical-grade equipment, and carries full emergency equipment and reversal medications in the office.

How long does it take to recover?

Most patients feel back to normal within a few hours. You’ll need someone to drive you home, and we recommend resting for the remainder of the day. By the next morning, most people feel completely fine.

Can I have all my dental work done in one visit?

In most cases, yes. That’s one of the biggest advantages of IV sedation — Dr. Rus can complete hours of work in a single session while you sleep. No coming back for fifteen separate appointments.

What if I have a medical condition?

During your free consultation, Dr. Rus reviews your full medical history and medications. IV sedation is safe for most patients, but we evaluate every case individually. If there’s any concern, we’ll tell you upfront.

Ready when you are.

No pressure. No judgment. No lectures. Just a conversation about what’s possible.
