IV Moderate Sedation · CT State Permit · Continuously Monitored

IV sedation for people who’ve
been putting this off.

Whatever you need done, from a single filling to a full-arch rebuild, we can do it while you’re deeply relaxed under IV moderate sedation. If fear is why you’ve stayed away, start here. Most patients remember little or nothing.

What IV moderate sedation actually means.

IV sedation is medication delivered through a small IV line in your arm. Within seconds of administration, you enter a deep twilight state. You are still breathing on your own — your airway reflexes remain intact. You can respond to simple verbal commands. But you won’t be distressed by what’s happening, and most patients remember little or nothing of the procedure.

This is different from general anesthesia, which requires a breathing tube and an anesthesiologist. IV moderate sedation is lighter — you breathe on your own throughout — but provides profound anxiolysis and deep relaxation for most patients, with most remembering little or nothing.

What we use — and don’t use

We say:

  • ✓ IV moderate sedation
  • ✓ IV conscious sedation
  • ✓ Deeply relaxed
  • ✓ Most patients remember little or nothing
  • ✓ Local anesthesia handles pain
  • ✓ Continuous vital-sign monitoring

We don’t say:

  • ✗ Sleep dentistry / “asleep”
  • ✗ Put under / knocked out
  • ✗ No pain (pain vs. anxiety are different)
  • ✗ Zero awareness
  • ✗ Safer than general anesthesia
  • ✗ Get it all done in one visit

Continuous monitoring throughout.

Dr. Maidans holds a Connecticut moderate sedation permit. Every sedation case uses continuous monitoring:

  • Oxygen saturation (pulse oximetry)
  • Heart rate and rhythm
  • Blood pressure
  • Respiratory rate
  • End-tidal CO₂ (capnography)

Any procedure. Not just surgery.

Sedation isn’t only for the big cases. If anxiety, a strong gag reflex, or trouble getting numb has kept you out of the chair, almost any treatment can happen while you’re deeply relaxed:

  • Crown and bridge work
  • Fillings
  • Tooth extractions, simple or surgical
  • Deep cleanings for sensitive or anxious patients
  • Implants, bone grafting, and full-arch surgery

Big cases, fewer sessions. The work that would normally mean many separate visits, we handle in one sedation session where it’s clinically right to. We don’t promise your entire treatment in a single day. Surgery happens under sedation; your final teeth come after you heal. We’ll be clear about both.

If All-on-X isn’t right for you, we can still treat you comfortably under sedation.
