IV Moderate Sedation · Simple & Surgical · Groton CT
Tooth extractions under sedation.
One tooth or a fresh start.
A tooth that needs to come out doesn’t have to mean a day you dread. We do tooth extractions under IV moderate sedation, so you’re deeply relaxed from the first minute to the last. One tooth or several. Either way, you come in anxious and leave it behind you.
The tooth you’ve been putting off.
You already know it has to go.
Maybe it’s broken. Maybe it’s been aching for months. Maybe it cracked and you’ve been chewing on the other side ever since.
You’ve put it off because the idea of the chair is worse than the pain. That’s not weakness. That’s most of the people we see. You’re not alone, and no one here is going to ask why you waited.
What extractions under sedation feel like.
Deeply relaxed, still breathing on your own.
We give the sedation through a small IV. Within a few minutes you’re in a deep twilight state, calm and comfortable. You can still respond to us, but you won’t mind what’s happening.
Local anesthesia handles the pain. The sedation handles the anxiety. The two work together.
This is IV moderate sedation, also called conscious sedation. It’s a real medical procedure, and we treat it that way. You breathe on your own the whole time.
Most patients remember little or nothing of the extraction. You settle in, and before long it’s done.
Is it safe.
You’re monitored every minute.
We track your oxygen, heart rate, and blood pressure continuously, from the first dose until you’re ready to go home. We screen your health history before we ever schedule you. Dr. Rus holds a Connecticut moderate sedation permit ‹#FLAG›.
What we take out, and how.
Simple or surgical. Same comfort either way.
A loose or visible tooth usually comes out in one simple motion. A broken, impacted, or buried tooth takes a surgical extraction, where we work below the gumline. Both happen while you’re deeply relaxed under the same IV moderate sedation.
If you’re facing several teeth at once, we can take them all out in a single session instead of spreading them across months of visits.
What to expect after.
Groggy today, better tomorrow.
The sedation wears off over a few hours. You’ll feel groggy for the rest of the day, so you’ll need someone to drive you home and stay with you. Most people manage the next day with over-the-counter pain relief and a soft-food day or two. We send you home with clear instructions and a number to call if anything feels off.
One tooth or a fresh start. We meet you where you are.
If it’s a single tooth, we take it out while you’re deeply relaxed under IV moderate sedation and get you home the same day. If you’re facing several failing teeth, extractions can be the first step toward fixed teeth on implants. We’ll tell you honestly which fits your case, with no pressure either way.

Questions people ask.
- Does getting a tooth pulled under sedation hurt?
- No. Local anesthesia numbs the area completely, and the IV moderate sedation keeps you deeply relaxed on top of that. Most patients remember little or nothing of the extraction itself.
- Will I be awake?
- You'll be in a deep twilight state, calm and responsive, breathing on your own. This is conscious sedation, not general anesthesia. You won't be aware of much, and the time in the chair tends not to register.
- Can I drive myself home?
- No. The sedation wears off over several hours, so you'll need someone to drive you and stay with you for the day. Plan to take it easy until tomorrow.
- Can you replace the tooth after you take it out?
- Yes. Dr. Rus places and restores implants himself, so an extraction can be the first step toward a replacement. If you're missing or losing several teeth, ask us about fixed teeth on implants at your consult.
- What does it cost, and do you take my insurance?
- We're out of network with all carriers. You pay upfront and submit to your insurer for direct reimbursement. You'll get an exact price at your office visit, not a range. No surprises.
